New Look 6802 (aka the Atlantis dress)

I made View C in size 12 straight from the packet with no alterations, other than swapping the sleeves for the ones in View B.

There’s still a bit of a wrinkle going on at the back, but I can’t usually see that! And it’s no worse than in ready to wear.

The twist overlay on the front sits beautifully, and the dress underneath has a high enough neckline that I didn’t need to wear a cami underneath it. I love it! Mr Thornberry has christened it “the Atlantis dress” because he reckons that the colours and pattern on the fabric are extremely underwater. And guess what – I even made matching undies!

I wore this outfit to the theatre on Saturday night and felt comfortable and fashionable.  What a feeling!

  1. Hi Lara, that dress looks great and I LOVE the matching undies. The cotton I’ve been using for my crocheted trims is that fine stuff you buy at Spotlight. I have no idea of the ply because nothing I have here has labels on it. I want to call it mercerized cotton but I’m not 100% sure that’s accurate. I’ve been using a 2.5 hook. Let me know if you have no idea what I’m talking about and I’ll email you next time I get to Ballarat and have more info.

  2. Lara, you are enviably clever! I love seeing your creations. I was in Melbourne and planned to go to either Darn Cheap Fabrics or GJ’s- haven’t been to either before, but ran out of time. I love the cross over AND, matching undies are just fab!

  3. You are just too much Lara, I love the matching undies! Great dress pattern, I’ve been looking for something twisty drapey like that to make into winter tunics. Do you reckon it would work slightly shorter? Could you wear a top underneath?

  4. Ack! It’s been a week and a half since I’ve been by to see what you are up to, and I have read through all of the posts, lamenting that I’ve missed commenting on each individual one.
I will try rolling it all into one comment. Loved your Sewjourn post. Made me wonder yet again if I will ever become a quilter. Enjoyed your vintage crochet posts. And really love your posts on what you are sewing. Today’s dress (w/matching undies nonetheless!) really shines! That pattern style is one of my favorites for flattering my particular figure (not exactly proportional to the standard).
But still my favorite posts are the ones with Stella and Clare!

  5. So, so flattering! I have several dresses that I have purchased in a similar style–maybe I will have to make one! I always feel great when I wear this style of dress, since it looks so nice on me (and you, too).
