Simplicity 3504

In the past weeks I’ve been working my way through my cut-out-but-not-sewn-yet pile.  I finished off Simplicity 3504:

Simplicity 3504 by you.

This is an “inspired by Project Runway” pattern, and has a number of sleeve and neckline options.  I let Clare choose which options she thought she would look good on me.  I don’t think I’d have chosen the puffy double sleeve myself.

I cut this out as a size 12 after measuring myself and the finished pattern.  I thought it would be fine taking ease into account but I think I should still have done a FBA.  It seems to be a little snug across the boobs, but fits okay elsewhere.  Still not sure about the neckline on me either.  The fabric is a cotton lawn from Spotlight.  I’ll wear this top, but I don’t think it will be a favourite.  I’d like to try the pattern again with a different neckline and sleeve.  And a FBA.

  1. What a lovely top. That’s the prettiest fabric you have used and I think the neckline looks very nice. I just had a peek at the pattern …. its good value with all those variations.

  2. I love that blouse on you..you did an excellent job! I just am getting back into sewing for self…just bought material for a dress..just need to get it to fit right.

  3. Well I like the double flounced sleeves on you! Very nice!

  4. Those sleeves are really flirty and fun and I do like the neckline (and what’s wrong with a top being a little tight – if you’ve got it, flaunt it!). I think you should wear this top more often because it looks good on you and just in time for the hot weather to roll in!

  5. I think the sleeeves are lovely for a hot day where you don’t want anything developing into sunburn on your shoulders. I do like patterns which give you options. At the mo I need to find a prom dress one for daughter with straps. There are loads that are strapless.

  6. I like both the neckline and the sleeves, although I understand the uncertainty about those kind of sleeves. I feel a bit odd in them myself, even if I know it looks good!
